2004 Tournament Information

To All Fellow Golfing Friends,

It is now time to start making plans for our 2004 golf tournament. This is a very special year for us, as we head back to northern California again. Why am I so excited? It is simple. We have signed up to play the best golf course this tournament has ever seen in the Pasatiempo Golf Club, located in the hills above Santa Cruz. Why is Pasatiempo so special you ask? Again the answer is simple. Dr. Alistair MacKenzie, who is arguably one of the best golf architects of all time, designed it. Some of his other prestigious works include Cypress Point, Augusta National, and Royal Melbourne – get the picture now? Pasatiempo was built in 1929, and it was easy to see at that time what people thought of the course. None other than Bobby Jones himself traveled all the way from Georgia to play the opening round, with famous British amateur Cyril Tolley and the course founder and former U.S. Women’s Amateur champion Marion Hollins. Aside from being the most beautiful course we will have ever played, it is also the most difficult, carrying a very challenging slope of 135 – from the white tees, despite being relatively short (but oh those greens!!!!)

On Friday before the main event, we will hold the Blue and Gold Cup at the very familiar Aptos Seascape course, which is just a short drive down the highway from Pasatiempo. It is the sight of a couple of past CBI’s, and was the venue for the inaugural Blue and Gold back in 1996. We will not be handling any hotel services through the tournament this year, so everyone is on their own. My recommendations are: a very nice Hilton in Scotts Valley, the old Pasatiempo Inn (right at the base of the course) which is a little on the "quiet side", a Hampton Inn in Santa Cruz and finally there is the Aptos Seacliff Inn in Aptos (many of you stayed there years ago). I suggest you make reservations now as the hotels will certainly fill up fast. Don’t miss what promises to be a very special CBI!

Invitations will be e-mailed out to you individually within the next 30 days. Please reply as soon as possible.

Thanks, Charlie Clark
