2004 Tournament Update

July 20th: We have now finalized the CBI pairing for 2004 after some last minute fast changes. We like our field and pairings very much this year and feel it will provide a very stimulating, reasonably level, and enjoyable competition. Unfortunately we are not able yet to release the Blue and Gold pairings. We are currently sitting on 35 players and need to fill our final spot before the pairings can be finalized. Hopefully we can get this done by this weekend. Stay tuned to the web-site for more information. Thanks.

July 3rd: Things are looking really good for our events this year. As of this writing, we have 37 players committed to play in the Blue and Gold and 55 in the CBI. We are still waiting word on about 6-8 more players so we expect our final numbers will be 38-40 and either 56 or 60 for our two competitions. At the moment, it appears that 6 of our participants will be first time players. A very small handful of our committed players have still not submitted their entry forms. If you are in this group, please get your documents in asap. A rough-cut of pairings for both of our events has already been completed. I am very enthusiastic about many of our match-ups and pairings. However, due to the fact that we are still awaiting word from our uncommitted group of players, it looks like we may need to delay the release of pairings until 1 week prior to our events. This is because I will be on vacation from July 8th-16th. We have two first year players this year that merit a brief announcement. Playing for the first time and coming in from New York will be my brother-in-law Andy Dejana (Patchogue, NY). I have been trying to get Andy to play in our event for many years and this year he finally broke down and agreed to play. He only plays golf occasionally, but we expect his Friday match-up against our other brother-in-law and tournament regular Jim Ferraro to be a battle royal. I hope both of them survive to fight on the following day. The other newcomer also wins the award this year for traveling the furthest to play. He is Alex Webster, who is coming all the way from Winchburgh (pronounced Winchburough just like the nearby city of Edinburgh), Scotland. Like Andy, I have been trying to get Alex to play since we met in 1999 when a group of 8 CBI golfers went on a tour of Scotland and played against Alex and 7 of his mates at his club - Niddry Castle G.C. It is therefore a very special tournament for the reason of Alex’s attendance. I expect all 8 CBI golfers who made the trip to Scotland to not allow Alex to approach any bar with his money in hand. Please intercept him and provide him with the same hospitality he showed us in 1999. Finally, it appears that this year will be the last year that Greg and I will see the participation of our Father Bob as he has decided to retire from tournament golf. We are very grateful that he plans to play once more, and look forward to making our way around the beautiful Pasatiempo links with him in the final pairing. One last request – if you are flying in from out of town on Friday morning, please let me know what time your flight lands (and at which airport) via an e-mail. We plan to go off as reasonably early as possible at Aptos (10:00 to 10:30 start) to allow us all time to get to Pasatiempo for dinner that night. If someone’s flight schedule appears tight, I will put them going out towards the back end of our group. I hope to continually update this page between now and tournament time so please check back often for new information.

Thanks,

Charlie
